  • Downtown street closures announced for upcoming Champaign StreetFest

    The Champaign City Partnership will be hosting Champaign StreetFest: Downtown Throwdown on Saturday, August 3, from 2 – 9 p.m. To accommodate the event, the following streets will be closed to traffic beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday; they will reopen by 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024:

  • Champaign police release results from July traffic safety campaign

    The Champaign Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign throughout July, reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. The speed enforcement effort was carried out by Champaign Police in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies in a coordinated attempt to reduce speeds and enhance safety on streets.

    A Champaign teenager has been charged following an investigation into a shooting incident on Colleen Drive in the early hours of July 20, 2024. At 2:45 a.m. that day, Champaign Police were dispatched when a vehicle arrived at the Fire Station in the 700 block of W. Bradley Avenue carrying two people with gunshot wounds. Officers with Champaign Police and personnel with the Champaign Fire Department worked to quickly render medical aid to a 16-year-old male victim from Champaign and an 18-year-old female victim from Dewey, IL, each with multiple potentially life-threatening...

    Hoerr Construction will close the right lane of westbound University Avenue between Market Street and Chestnut Street to perform storm sewer cleaning. During this period, westbound University Avenue will be reduced to a single lane through a short construction work zone.

  • Shooting on Cynthia Drive leaves two dead; police seek information

    Champaign Police were dispatched at 12:34 a.m. on July 28, 2024, to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located multiple people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Champaign Police Officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department worked quickly to render immediate medical aid until patients could be transported to an area hospital.

  • Shooting leaves two injured on W. Bradley Avenue

    Champaign Police were dispatched at 3:16 a.m. on July 27, 2024, to the 1800 block of W. Bradley Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located two women – both aged 22 and from Champaign – who had suffered gunshot wounds. One of the victims had been struck in the cheek and hand. The second victim had suffered a graze wound to the leg. They received immediate treatment on-scene by officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department until they could be transported to an area hospital.   • Champaign Police seek public's help in investigating bank robbery

    Champaign Police were dispatched at 9:09 a.m. on July 27, 2024, to the 2000 block of W. Springfield Avenue for a report of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned a suspect had entered the bank and demanded money while implying that he had a firearm and threatening staff. The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency. No injuries have been reported to Champaign Police, and there is no evidence a gun was displayed or discharged during the commission of the robbery.

  • Neighborhood Services Department hosts engagement events in north Champaign

    On alternating Thursdays throughout the summer, the Neighborhood Services Department hosts CNNC Live! events. During July, engagement efforts focused on two key neighborhoods in north Champaign.

  • Timberline Valley North hosts annual ice cream social with record attendance

    On July 20, the Timberline Valley North HOA hosted their annual ice cream social in the commons area off Alpine Drive. Neighbors enjoyed frozen treats and conversations with each other. The event organizer reported more than 55 people in attendance, the highest number since they started hosting their social three years ago.

  • CommUnity Matters program celebrates achievements at quarterly meeting

    The CommUnity Matters program has commenced its 16th year of providing youth services. On July 23, Community Development Specialist Shelby Mammano hosted partner agencies for a quarterly meeting. The following are updates on what the program partners are achieving with funding from the City’s Community Development Block Grant.

  • Wright Street closure scheduled for sewer work from July 29 to August 2

    In order to complete a sanitary sewer connection at 608 E. Chalmers, Mid Illinois Concrete & Excavating will close a portion of Wright Street between Daniel Street and Chalmers Street. The closure will begin on Monday, July 29, and is planned to reopen on Friday, August 2, 2024, weather permitting. Through traffic will be allowed in this area and bike lanes will merge with traffic. Access will be maintained to all properties.

  • Anthony Drive to close for construction between Dobbins and Campbell Drives

    White Construction will close Anthony Drive between Dobbins Drive and Campbell Drive. Eastbound and westbound Anthony Drive traffic will be detoured in the area. The closure will begin on Monday, July 29, and will be reopened on Wednesday, July 31, weather permitting. Access will be maintained to all local properties.

  • Westbound lane closed on University Avenue for construction work

    In order to complete the installation of façade panels at 306 E. University Avenue, Stark Excavating has closed a westbound lane of University Avenue between Fourth Street and Third Street. The closure began on Wednesday, July 24, and will reopen on Friday, August 9, 2024. During the closure, westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

  • Champaign seeks architects for Fire Station No. 3 design

    The City of Champaign has issued a request for Letters of Interest from firms to provide professional architectural design services for the construction of a new fire station. This new facility will replace Fire Station No. 3, currently located at 702 W. Bradley Avenue in Champaign.

  • Rising Road and Windsor Road lane closures scheduled for maintenance

    As part of the City’s 2024 Infrastructure Maintenance Project, A&A Concrete will be closing one lane of Rising Road and one lane of Windsor Road at the intersection to repair and replace the guardrail. The work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, with the closure expected to last one day, weather permitting.

  • Daniel Street road closure announced for sewer and sinkhole repair

    A portion of Daniel Street between Fifth Street and Sixth Street has been closed by A&R Mechanical Services, Inc. to perform a sanitary sewer and sinkhole repair. Through traffic will not be allowed on the block; however, access to local properties will be maintained. The intersection of Daniel Street and Fifth Street will remain open to traffic.
