Champaign Police were dispatched at 3:16 a.m. on July 27, 2024, to the 1800 block of W. Bradley Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located two women – both aged 22 and from Champaign – who had suffered gunshot wounds. One of the victims had been struck in the cheek and hand. The second victim had suffered a graze wound to the leg. They received immediate treatment on-scene by officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department until they could be transported to an area hospital. The wounds of both are considered non-life-threatening, and they remain in stable condition.

The initial investigation indicates that the victims were attending an impromptu gathering in a parking lot when an unknown subject produced a firearm and opened fire. The subject then fled the area. The reason for the gunfire is not yet known. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards of $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in any homicide case, $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest in a felony crime involving a firearm, and up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of those responsible for any other crime.
