The Champaign County Community Coalition convened its monthly meeting on June 11, 2025, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center. A major focus was the forthcoming Black Mental Health and Wellness Conference, slated for September 20, 2025. The conference will feature Dr. Tiffany Gholson from Breaking Barriers International as the keynote speaker and include eight sessions covering topics like trauma-informed care, youth mental health, and racialized trauma.
An update on the Community Health Plan was also provided by the Champaign–Urbana Public Health District. This plan aims to set public health priorities for the next five years with a focus on access to healthcare, promoting healthy behaviors, violence prevention, and behavioral health.
Local law enforcement agencies discussed recent crime trends and outlined community engagement initiatives intended to bolster public safety and trust.
During the Information Sharing segment, Juneteenth celebrations were highlighted. Events included those organized by CU Trauma & Resilience Initiative, The Well Experience, Illinois Soul, Champaign Public Library and Champaign Park District, City of Urbana, Urbana Park District, and Bethel AME Church. An update from a recent event hosted by the CU Reparations Coalition was also shared.
