Cearah Parchment, a freshman with the Fighting Illini women's basketball team, has been selected to join Canada's roster for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to occur from July 12-20 in Brno, Czechia.
Parchment, a 6-foot-3 forward from Whitby, Ontario, attended Fort Erie International Academy. She was a four-star recruit and ranked No. 40 in espnW's HoopGurlz listing before joining the Fighting Illini in January 2025 after completing high school early.
Previously, Parchment played for Canada at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship. She earned recognition as a BWB All Star at the 2024 BWB Americas event and was named to the 2023 FIBA Americas All-Star Five.
Canada's women's U19 team includes 12 players for this summer's activities. Training camp occurred from June 22-28, followed by additional training in Portugal from June 29-July 3. The team then participated in an exhibition tournament in Portugal from July 4-6.
In the upcoming World Cup, Canada will compete in Group B alongside Portugal, Nigeria, and China. Sixteen teams have qualified for this year's event. Canada's best performance at this level came with third-place finishes in both the 2023 and 2017 competitions.
