Illinois volleyball drops straight-set match to No. 11 Purdue

Illinois lost to 11th-ranked Purdue in three sets on Friday night at Huff Hall. The match saw Taylor de Boer lead the Fighting Illini with 14 kills, also adding three digs and one block. Auburn Tomkinson contributed eight kills and five digs, achieving her highest dig total in a Big Ten match so far in her career. Averie Hernandez recorded four kills and six digs, while Taryn Kirsch led the team defensively with nine digs.

"Auburn Tomkinson tallied eight kills and five digs. Made at least five digs for the fourth time this season. Her five digs are her most in a Big Ten match in her career."

"Taryn Kirsch finished with a team-most nine digs, along with two assists. Had at least nine assists for the 10th time this season."

With this result, head coach Chris Tamas now holds an overall record of 161-100 during his tenure leading Illinois volleyball. The team's all-time record against Purdue stands at 52-47 following Friday's loss.

Illinois is now 6-2 when playing matches that end in straight sets this season and has posted a home record of 3-2 at Huff Hall so far. The Illini have won three out of four matches played while wearing orange jerseys.

The Fighting Illini (12-6 overall, 7-2 Big Ten) will conclude their two-match homestand by facing Michigan on Saturday night at Huff Hall. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on B1G+.
