State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Weldon) is openly siding with a group of healthcare workers recently awarded $10.3 million in a suit they filed after being fired for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“And hopefully more suits of this kind will follow. In an important ruling, 500 health care workers in Illinois have won a huge $10.3 million victory against North Shore University Health System for unlawfully discriminating against them by denying their religious exemptions from the COVID shot mandate,” Halbrook posted on Facebook.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the case was filed with 14 workers, with the plaintiffs ranging from nurses to pharmacy technicians and others. The suit was formally lodged in October 2021 and the proposed settlement was filed on July 29.

As part of his post, Halbrook shared a link to a Western Journal article about the case, where payout awarded to the group was highlighted. The ruling also stipulates that NorthShore must change its unconstitutional “no religious accommodations” policy to make it consistent with the law, adding that employees who were terminated for refusing the vaccine will now be eligible for rehiring.

Liberty Counsel's statement says those who were denied religious exemptions will have the opportunity to opt out of the settlement or submit a claim form.
