Carle BroMenn Medical Center is joining with Habitat for Humanity of McLean County to help bring a new home into the community for a family in need. The Carle BroMenn-sponsored Healthcare House is one of five homes being built this year by Habitat McLean County through the efforts of the families who will live in the homes and community support.

This isn’t the first time BroMenn Medical Center has teamed up with Habitat McLean County. In the 1980s a collaborative effort between the hospital and the nonprofit resulted in four local families having new homes to call their own. Carle BroMenn’s Healthcare House will be an exciting first as Carle BroMenn team members and physicians will have opportunities to come together and volunteer their time and talents to help build the home.

“The relationship between housing and health is compelling,” Colleen Kannaday, president Carle BroMenn Medical Center and Carle Eureka Hospital says. “Stable, safe, affordable housing is a wider determinant of overall physical and mental health and well-being. Habitat McLean County understands the many benefits stable, affordable housing provides. Our team is very engaged when it comes to volunteerism so we are pleased to partner with Habitat and offer this outlet to our physicians, staff and friends that want to make a difference in the well-being of our community through this Healthcare House.”

Construction of the Carle BroMenn Medical Center’s Healthcare House kicks off with a Wall Build in the Carle BroMenn parking lot on Saturday, April 22. Once volunteer teams help construct the exterior walls of the house, the structure moves to its permanent location at 926 W. Olive St. in Bloomington.

“We can’t do what we do without the partnership of volunteers and organizations like Carle BroMenn,” Jolene Aldus, development director, Habitat for Humanity of McLean County shares. “We believe that healthcare starts at home, and we are truly blessed to have the support of the physicians, staff and friends of Carle BroMenn to help make the dream of affordable home ownership come true for a very deserving family. This Healthcare House will be bringing people from all walks of life together to build a home, community and hope for a healthy and stable future.”
