Illinois fell to Michigan in straight sets on Saturday night at Huff Hall. The match saw strong individual performances from several players despite the loss.
Taylor de Boer led Illinois with 17 kills, marking her 10th consecutive match with double-digit kills. She also recorded one block during the game. "Taylor de Boer tallied a team-leading 17 kills and also made one block. Had double-digit kills for the 17th time this season. Has 10+ kills in all 10 Big Ten matches and in 12 of her last 13 appearances overall. Has at least one block in nine of the Illini's 10 conference matches," according to the team.
Alyssa Aguayo contributed 15 kills on a career-best .462 hitting percentage, along with eight digs, two aces, and an assist. "Alyssa Aguayo totaled 15 kills, eight digs, two aces, and an assist. Tallied 10+ kills for the 14th time this season. Has double-digit kills in four of her last five outings. Had multiple aces for the fifth time in her career. Her .462 hitting percentage was a career-best mark," stated Illinois officials.
Kenna Phelan added to the effort with 35 assists, seven digs, two aces, two kills, and a block. "Kenna Phelan collected 35 assists, seven digs, two aces, two kills, and a block. Had multiple aces for the sixth time this season. Her two aces are her most in a Big Ten match," according to notes from the team.
Defensively, Taryn Kirsch posted a notable performance with double-digit digs for the ninth time this season as well as four assists.
With this result, head coach Chris Tamas's record stands at 161-101 during his tenure leading Illinois volleyball. The team's all-time record against Michigan is now 54-28.
Illinois now holds an overall record of 12-7 (7-3 B1G) and will travel north to face #20 Minnesota on Wednesday at 7 p.m., with coverage available on Big Ten Network.
