CHAMPAIGN CITY TREASURER: City of Champaign Recognized for Financial Reporting

Financial transparency

Champaign City Treasurer issued the following announcement on May 30.

The City of Champaign is proud to announce that it has once again been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment. This is the twenty-sixth consecutive year the City of Champaign has been awarded this distinction by the GFOA.

The GFOA also presented an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement to the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR – the City’s Financial Services Manager/City Accountant, Carrie Siems.

An impartial panel judges the CAFR to ensure it meets the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

“On behalf of the City of Champaign, it is an honor to once again receive the highest award for financial reporting excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada,” said Finance Director Kay Nees. “I’m very proud of the work the Finance Department and other City staff put into the creating the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.”
