Gov. Bruce Rauner appointed new leaders for two state agencies Nov. 13.
State Rep. Raymond Poe will be the state's new director of the Department of Agriculture. Poe is a lifelong farmer from the Springfield area and has represented his district for 20 years. He's been a member of several committees, including the Agriculture and Conservation Committee. Representatives for the governor said Poe's dynamic background as an experienced farmer and dedicated legislator made him a good fit for the job.
Rauner also appointed veteran defense attorney James Mullenix to the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission. Mullenix is a criminal defense attorney at Koehler Mullenix LLC and has previously served as a public defender in Cook County. He has almost 35 years of legal experience.
The Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission was created by law in 2009 to gather evidence and otherwise evaluate claims of torture as both a filter and conduit for torture cases in the judicial system. Mullenix will be one of the commission's eight members.
