In response to a recent increase in gun violence, the City of Champaign's Department of Equity & Engagement organized a Community Gun Violence Response Meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The event took place at 4:00 p.m. and gathered community members, city leaders, elected officials, and representatives from local non-profit organizations. They were united by a shared commitment to safety and healing.
The meeting was part of the city's ongoing Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint. It provided a space for residents to voice concerns, share experiences, and collaborate on solutions. Attendees engaged in dialogue about the need for community-driven approaches to address gun violence's root causes.
"The City of Champaign remains committed to listening, learning, and leading with equity as we work together to build a safer, stronger community for all," stated the city's representative. Additional meetings and initiatives are planned throughout the year. Residents are encouraged to participate in future opportunities to be part of the solution.
