In order to complete work at 41 E. University Avenue, Otto Baum will close the southbound lane of Market Street between University Avenue and Bailey Street. During the southbound closure, northbound traffic will remain open. The closure will begin on Monday, September 16, and the lane will reopen on Friday, September 27, 2024, weather permitting.

A Champaign teenager has been arrested following an unfounded 9-1-1 call reporting an active threat at Centennial High School. Champaign Police were dispatched at 2:01 p.m. on September 9, 2024, when a 9-1-1 call was placed indicating a potential armed subject at Centennial High School. As the details of the call developed, the caller’s story was found to have several inconsistencies. The work is scheduled to occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, weather permitting.

Police investigate shooting incident on Holly Hill Drive
Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Holly Hill Drive at 10:56 p.m. on September 5, 2024, for a report of shots fired. On-scene, officers quickly located evidence of gunfire, including shell casings and property damage. A short time later, at 11:18 p.m., a 22-year-old female victim from Champaign arrived at an area hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. Additional officers were immediately dispatched to the hospital to interview the victim and gather evidence. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Hedge Road closure announced for drainage improvements in Champaign
In order to complete storm sewer and roadway construction as part of the City of Champaign’s Garden Hills Drainage Improvements Project, Duce Construction will close Hedge Road between Hedge Court and Summerlin Lane. The closure will begin on Monday, September 9, 2024, and work is anticipated to last approximately six weeks, weather permitting. Crews will coordinate with residents to maintain local vehicular access to properties within the closure as possible.

Traffic signal upgrades prompt lane closures on Bradley Avenue
CS&L is currently upgrading and repairing traffic signals at the intersection of State Street and Bradley Avenue. The traffic signals have been placed in flash mode. During this work, a westbound lane on Bradley Avenue and a southeast lane of Bloomington Road at the intersection will be closed until noon today.
