Illinois forward David Mirkovic has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first week of the 2025-26 season, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday.
During the week of November 3-9, Mirkovic averaged 18.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, also contributing 2.5 assists as Illinois secured two victories. He recorded a shooting percentage of 57% from the field and made 91% of his free throws.
In his debut against Jackson State, Mirkovic scored 19 points, collected a game-high 14 rebounds, and provided four assists. This performance made him the first Illinois freshman since Kofi Cockburn to achieve a double-double in his debut game. After the opening week of play, Mirkovic ranks second in rebounding across all players in the Big Ten (12.5 rebounds per game) and leads all freshmen in this category.
