Several campus intersections in Champaign have received new pedestrian signals, according to the City of Champaign’s Public Works Traffic and Lighting section. The project involved replacing older stacked “Walk/Don’t Walk” indicators and countdown timers with larger, side-by-side displays. The city stated that these updated signals are designed to improve visibility for both pedestrians and motorists.
The upgraded signals have been installed at six intersections: Green and First, Green and Fourth, Green and Sixth, Green and Wright, Fourth and Daniel, and Sixth and John.
“These new signals offer significantly better visibility for both pedestrians and motorists,” the city said in its announcement.
The improvements are part of ongoing efforts by the City of Champaign to enhance safety infrastructure on campus. The changes come as part of routine updates managed by the Public Works Department.
