Staff from the Equity & Engagement Department participated in a series of events during Welcoming Week 2025, which ran from September 12 to 21. The initiative is a national campaign that promotes inclusive communities and highlights the contributions of immigrants.
Over the course of the week, department staff took part in several activities. These included attending the Welcoming Week Kick-Off Breakfast with community and campus partners, witnessing Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen read the Welcoming Week Proclamation at City Council, and joining Urbana Mayor DeShawn Williams for Coffee during Welcoming Week. The department also sponsored the 12th Annual Immigrant Welcome Awards and hosted the Welcoming Week Family Festival at Downtown Plaza.
“These efforts reflect our department’s continued commitment to advancing equity and supporting meaningful community engagement,” according to a statement from the Equity & Engagement Department.
The events aimed to foster dialogue, recognize immigrant achievements, and build stronger relationships among residents.
