Illinois baseball has welcomed Zach Luevanos to its coaching staff, as announced by head coach Dan Hartleb. Luevanos will assume the role of pitching coach while Mark Allen takes a health-related leave.

"We are excited to have Zach join our staff for the 2025 season," Hartleb stated. "Zach and coach Allen have known each other for over 15 years. This hire will allow for continuity throughout our pitching staff due to the long-standing friendship and common teachings. We appreciate what Zach is doing for the program and to help coach Allen bridge the gap while he continues to work on his health."

Luevanos, originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, comes from Texas Twelve, a notable baseball academy where he was Director of High School Baseball Operations in San Antonio. During his tenure there, the program saw four first-round MLB Draft picks and helped place over 315 student-athletes in colleges.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the University of Illinois baseball program," Luevanos expressed. "I am looking forward to working with the pitching staff, my friend Mark Allen, and the rest of the Illini coaching staff. I am ready to do my best to help the Fighting Illini have a successful season."

His coaching career began at Lamar University as a graduate assistant in 2013 before moving into management roles at two training facilities in Beaumont, Texas from 2014-2016. In 2017, he became an assistant coach at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), followed by two seasons at Incarnate Word under head coach Pat Hallmark as a volunteer assistant.

In 2020, Luevanos joined UTSA as a volunteer assistant before returning to OLLU in 2021 as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. At OLLU, he contributed significantly with two pitchers receiving All-American honors and led them to their first top-25 national ranking.

As a player, Luevanos started his collegiate career at Seminole State earning all-region honors before transferring to Lamar where he achieved All-Southland Conference honors.

Coming from a family with deep baseball roots—his cousins Tony and Rudy Jaramillo being former MLB hitting coaches—Luevanos brings extensive experience and passion for baseball coaching.

He resides with his wife Maureen and their children Liam (7) and Allie (2), who will remain in Texas during this season.
