Illinois baseball has announced that five of its players have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. The announcement was made public today.
The players who received this distinction are Reed Gannon, Ben Plumley, Sam Reed, Kyle Schupmann, and Jack Zebig. To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District consideration, student-athletes must meet specific criteria: they must be at least sophomores, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and participate in 90 percent of their institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of them. For pitchers, eligibility requires at least 17 appearances or 35 innings pitched.
Reed Gannon achieved this honor for the first time in his career. During the season, he appeared in 23 games and made one start. He recorded a career-best 21 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .255 average. Gannon completed his bachelor's degree in finance in agribusiness last December and recently obtained a graduate certificate in strategic leadership & management.
Ben Plumley is honored for the second consecutive year. In his first season as part of the starting rotation, he made ten starts and struck out 40 batters, ranking second on the Fighting Illini team. Plumley earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural and consumer economics last December and is currently pursuing a master's degree in accountancy.
Sam Reed received his first CSC All-District accolade as a recreation, sport & tourism major. He participated in 18 games during the campaign, achieving a total of 31 strikeouts over 33.2 innings.
Kyle Schupmann also garnered his first-career CSC All-District honor as an agribusiness markets & management major. Playing third base for all 52 games he started, Schupmann posted a slash line of .288/.389/.545 with eight doubles, two triples, thirteen home runs, and forty-four RBIs.
Jack Zebig was awarded his first CSC All-District recognition as well while majoring in mathematics. As shortstop across all fifty-four games he started, Zebig maintained an overall slash line of .303/.409/.483 with ten doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and forty-seven RBIs.
