Illini track and field heads to Clemson for final regular-season meet

The University of Illinois track and field teams are preparing for their final regular-season meet at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. The event will take place on February 9-10 at the Rock Norman Track & Field Complex.

In recent performances, Amber Simpson, a graduate student, set a new school record in the weight throw with a distance of 22.01 meters (72-2 1/2). This achievement places her tenth nationally. Freshman Jordan Koskondy achieved a personal best in the hammer throw at 20.23 meters (66-4 1/4), ranking second in program history.

Senior Jack Roberts won the 3000m race with a time that ranks him fifth-fastest in program history. Junior Halle Hill recorded the sixth-fastest mile time for the program, finishing third overall. Senior Will Merrick entered the record books with his mile time placing seventh all-time.

Among national top-15 athletes from Illinois, notable mentions include Darja Sopova ranked third in triple jump and Tori Thomas fourth in pole vault for women. On the men's side, Tyler Sudduth is first in weight throw and fourteenth in shot put.

This upcoming meet will serve as an opportunity for these athletes to showcase their talents before heading into postseason competitions.
