Luuk Pelkmans, a signee for the Illinois track and field team, has achieved significant success at the Netherlands U20 National Championships. Competing in Heerenveen, Pelkmans secured a gold medal with a personal-best decathlon score of 8,016 points. This achievement marks not only a new personal record but also surpasses the previous program record by nearly 400 points.
His performance places him as the second-highest scoring Dutch U20 decathlete and ranks him 20th all-time for U20 decathletes globally. The score of 8,016 would have earned him a gold medal at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships by almost 500 points. Furthermore, it stands as the fourth-highest national score for 2025, qualifying him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
