Illinois State Rep. Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) is concerned about what the repercussions could be should the so-called "Worker's Rights Amendment" be approved by voters in the upcoming election.
Caulkins, who was first elected to the Illinois House in 2018, took to social media about the issue.
"Another look at what Amendment 1 could mean if it is adopted," Caulkins wrote in an October 17 Facebook post.
In the post, Caulkins shared a link to a Center Square report that suggests strikes by public safety personnel could be coming if Amendment 1 is made law. Center Square reported that supporters aim to codify collective bargaining rights in the state for wages, work conditions, and other issues. Opponents argue the amendment would lead to higher property taxes. The report even noted that The Illinois Municipal League stood against the measure, because it could lead to strikes among emergency workers.
According to the Macon Reporter, Caulkins took to Facebook to share his views on Amendment 1 this summer. He even called it "the most important vote Illinoisans will take this election" in a Facebook post.
A petition to remove Amendment 1 from the November ballot was denied in late August, the Center Square reported.
