Veteran state Rep. Brad Halbrook is urging Illinoisans to push back against state COVID-19 restrictions and usher in a complete house cleaning in Springfield.

“The Democrats don’t want you to speak up against useless COVID restrictions for school children or the indoctrination that is happening in the classrooms,” Halbrook said in a post to Facebook. “And now when you do speak up anyway, they want to call you a terrorist, even compare you to the 9-11 attackers. None of these people deserve to be in office at this point.”

As it is, Halbrook is among those pushing for the passage of House Bill 2814, a measure that seeks to “amend the school code for the school board oath and removes unnecessary language,” the Chambana Sun reported. Having recently passed the House unanimously, the measure would also “remove sections on setting the course for the school district, ensuring students have the opportunity to attain their maximum potential, ensuring student assessment, and serving as education’s key advocate on behalf of students and the school."

With Sen. Chapin Rose as the chief Senate sponsor, the bill is now awaiting hearings in the Senate.

Almost a year to the day since Gov. J.B. Pritzker put his first  mitigation order in place as a way of staving off the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, Halbrook is now blasting all his related executive actions as acts of “COVID fascism,” according to the Macon Reporter.

Earlier this year, Halbrook was on hand for a rally in Springfield where demonstrators took to the streets to demand that Pritzker put an end to the order that forced small businesses across the state to shutter after the government deemed them nonessential. Halbrook said he’s long known that what he calls the governor’s disconnect from the people he’s supposed to represent was destined to be a bigger problem than many imagined, especially for the people of his 102nd District.

“I don’t begrudge people born into wealth, but when you have the kind he has you’re not going to connect with the everyday person,” Halbrook told the Macon Reporter. “He just doesn’t have any idea about rural Illinois.”
