With a wide variety of signup options and a charitable mission, Champaign Central's Interact Club will hold its second annual 5K race Saturday, Nov. 19, with all proceeds  benefiting a local humanitarian organization.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. at Crystal Lake Park. Participants will receive race T-shirts, with awards for top finishers.

There are three ways to sign up for this event. Online registration is available through Nov. 15 at http://racerpal.com/races/interactclub.html. Registration by mail can be done by printing out a form from this link: http://www.racerpal.com/races/pdf/2016-11-19-InteractClub.pdf. Finally, signup is available on race day, starting at 8:30 a.m.

So far, 25 individuals have signed up. The cost is $20 for adults (19 years and older) and $15 for students ages 5-18 through Nov. 4. After that date and through Nov. 19, the registration fee will increase to $25 and $20, respectively. Race entry is free for all children under the age of 5, regardless of signup date.

Additionally, group rates are available. This would be a great opportunity for sports teams, clubs, school staff and local businesses. Please email Brad Baum at baumbr@u4sd.org for more information or with questions.

100 percent of race proceeds will go to Urbana’s Crisis Nursery, an “island of safety” for families in the Champaign area, dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect through 24-hour availability. Those who are not signing up to race, but are interested in making a donation can do so by visiting www.gofundme.com/interact5k.

For questions or more information, residents can contact Elizabeth Dietz at dietzel@champaignschools.org.

Champaign Central's Interact Club meets each Tuesday before school at 7:30 a.m. in Room 315. The group engages students in service to the community.
