Fighting Illini women's tennis players are set to compete at the ITA Central Sectional Championships in College Station, Texas, from November 6 to 9. The event will see McKenna Schaefbauer representing Illinois in the singles competition, while Alice Xu and Tess Bucher will participate as a doubles team. Additionally, Ariel Madatali and Schaefbauer are listed as first alternates for the doubles draw.

Schaefbauer is scheduled to begin her singles campaign on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CT against Violeta Martinez, a former Illinois player now competing for Texas A&M. Xu and Bucher will also start their singles matches on Thursday at 9 a.m., and as a doubles pair they will face Tsai/Gomez O'Hayon from TCU.

The tournament is structured as single-elimination and serves as one of four qualifying events for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which will take place from November 18 to 23 in Orlando, Florida. Six singles competitors—specifically the four semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners—from this sectional will secure places in the national championships later this month.

The ITA Central Sectional features 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams over four days of play. Participants include student-athletes from universities such as Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Wisconsin.

Tournament play begins Thursday with doubles matches at 9 a.m., followed by singles matches throughout the day. Consolation rounds are scheduled for all first-round losers in both singles and doubles brackets to ensure continued participation through the weekend.
