Fighting Illini junior Jeremy Zhang advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the Big Ten Individual Championships, securing two victories before his run ended.

Zhang, who is from Australia, received a first-round bye and started his campaign with a win over Vincent Yang of Northwestern. He took the match 7-6(1), 6-2 on Friday afternoon. In Saturday’s third round, Zhang defeated Wisconsin’s Tomas Zlatohlavek in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

His progress in the main draw concluded after a two-set loss to Patrik Meszaros of Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. The final score was 6-3, 6-3 in favor of Meszaros.
