Third arrest made in July shooting that injured teen in Champaign

A third teenager from Champaign has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place on July 15, 2025, on the 1100 block of N. Third Street. The incident resulted in a 14-year-old male sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Champaign Police responded to the scene at 5:01 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Officers and members of the Champaign Fire Department provided immediate medical assistance to the victim before he was transported to a hospital. The victim has since been released and is recovering.

According to police, their initial investigation found that the victim was in an outdoor common area of an apartment complex when several individuals approached and fired at him. Evidence recovered at the scene included multiple shell casings and building damage.

Two suspects—a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from Champaign—were arrested on the night of the incident. On July 31, a third suspect, identified as a 17-year-old male from Champaign, was also taken into custody for his involvement. Police have not released names due to the ages of those involved.

Two firearms were recovered during the investigation on July 15. Authorities say that while three arrests have been made, the case remains open and updates may be shared as new information becomes available.

The Champaign Police Department expressed appreciation for assistance from the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force in this investigation.
