Adam Niemerg, a state representative from Illinois, said that Democratic fiscal policies have increased spending and taxes, leaving residents in a worse position. He made this statement on the social media platform X.

"No BIG shock here….Illinois Democrats tax and spend policies will yield yet another tax increase," said Adam M. Niemerg. "This year's budget is 55 BILLION up 43% since Pritzker took office! Highest combined taxes in the country with second highest property taxes. All while Gov. Pritzker prioritized ILLEGALS over you."

According to Capitol News Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker's Fiscal Year 2026 budget proposal includes approximately $55.1 billion in general funds spending against $55.3 billion in projected revenue, marking Illinois' sixth consecutive balanced budget. This plan follows the FY2025 budget of $53.1 billion and reflects slower corporate tax receipts and cautious revenue forecasts. Democrats support selective tax increases while Republicans call for restraint amid economic uncertainty.

As reported by the Illinois General Assembly, total funds appropriations have risen from $171 billion in FY2021 to $215.3 billion in FY2026, with general funds appropriations growing from $40.7 billion to $53.7 billion over the same period. The FY2026 plan’s $55.1 billion budget represents more than 30% growth since 2019, reflecting sustained expansion in state operations and social spending.

According to WalletHub, Illinois ranks among the highest-taxed states in the country, with the second-highest property tax rate at 2.07%, behind only New Jersey. The Tax Foundation’s 2025 State Business Tax Climate Index places Illinois 37th overall, indicating a less competitive structure driven by property and income taxes that exceed national averages.

Niemerg, a Republican representing Illinois’ 102nd House District since 2021, previously worked for 12 years as a senior claims adjuster at Country Financial. According to the Illinois General Assembly, he serves on committees focused on taxation, energy, and public safety and is known for advocating limited government and lower taxes in rural southeastern Illinois.

According to the Illinois Constitution and the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget, Illinois’ annual budget must be balanced, with spending not exceeding anticipated revenue. The General Assembly drafts and passes appropriations; the governor signs or vetoes them; and tax changes follow the same legislative process. Local property taxes are levied independently by municipal and county taxing bodies under state oversight.
