A Champaign man has been charged in connection with a shooting incident on June 8, 2025, that left a teenager injured.

Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of Burr Oak Court at 10:19 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Officers found a 13-year-old boy with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds and provided medical aid before he was transported to a hospital, where he remains under treatment. A second victim, aged 15, suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was treated and released from the hospital.

The investigation revealed that an altercation involving multiple individuals led to shots being fired, injuring the victims. The group dispersed before police arrived. Additionally, damage was reported to one building and one vehicle due to the incident. Investigators identified Kejuan Jenkins, 27, of Champaign as one of those responsible for the gunfire. Jenkins was already detained at the Champaign County Correctional Center on unrelated charges when he was charged with attempted murder on June 25, 2025.

Despite this arrest, the investigation is ongoing. Champaign Police urge anyone with additional information to call 217-351-4545. Information can be shared privately or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 217-373-8477 (TIPS), visiting 373tips.com, or using the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

Crime Stoppers assures complete anonymity for informants; calls are routed through a third-party national call center that forwards information without recording conversations or tracking caller IDs.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
