Later that day, Miller reiterated her views on gender identity by stating "Men can never be women. Period." She noted that the Secretary of Defense shares this understanding but criticized some of her colleagues for not agreeing, calling it "embarrassing."

Born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1959 and residing in Oakland, Mary Miller graduated with a BA from Eastern Illinois University before taking office in 2021 after succeeding John Shimkus.
