Fighting Illini goalkeeper Izzy Lee has been selected to join the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team training camp for 2025, as announced by U.S. Soccer. The camp will take place from March 31 to April 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, under the guidance of Lisa Cole, who serves as the lead WNT Player Pathway scout.
Illinois soccer head coach Katie Hultin expressed her excitement about Lee's selection: "Izzy's invitation to the U-23 National Team camp is a testament to her relentless work ethic, incredible consistency and the competitive environment created by our goalkeeper group." She added that they are thrilled for both Lee and Illinois soccer.
Lee, a redshirt sophomore from Western Springs, Illinois, had an impressive season in 2024 with 97 saves. This achievement tied her for sixth-most all-time in a single season in program history and ranked her 15th nationally at the end of the regular season. She led Big Ten keepers in saves and saves per game with an average of 5.39. Her save percentage was recorded at 80.2%, marking it as the second-highest among conference keepers who played at least 1,620 minutes during the season.
Assistant coach Sammy Jo Prudhomme also praised Lee's dedication: "I couldn't be happier for Izzy," she said. "I've seen her work hard day in and day out to get better and strive to be her best, in every way, for herself and her teammates."
Lee stands out as one of five college players named to this roster and is notably the only player from the Big Ten conference included.
