The Illinois women's basketball team has been recognized for its academic achievements, receiving an honorable mention in the 2024-25 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The announcement was made on Tuesday. The Fighting Illini achieved a combined GPA of 3.597 during the 2024-25 school year, leading all Big Ten programs for the second consecutive season.
Head coach Shauna Green expressed her pride in the team's accomplishments: "I am so incredibly proud of Illinois having the highest team GPA in the Big Ten the past two seasons," she said. "It's a testament to our team's hard work in the classroom on a daily basis. We talk every day about being elite in everything that we do; we want our young women to have the same competitive spirit and drive in the classroom as they do on the court. We will continue to strive for excellence on the court and in the classroom."
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes women's basketball teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and two-year colleges across the nation with high combined GPAs among their student-athletes throughout the season. This marks the 30th year of these honor rolls.
Illinois is one of 115 Division-I women's teams to achieve a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher and ranks tied for 30th on this list. Their GPA is also noted as being top in the Big Ten for two years running after ranking second following Shauna Green's first season as head coach in 2022-23.
In total, ten of the league's eighteen squads received honorable mention status from WBCA: Illinois (T-30), Nebraska (39), Michigan State (47), Indiana (48), Minnesota (51), Iowa (56), Northwestern (70), USC (91), Ohio State (100), and Oregon (107).
