The City of Champaign has announced the schedule for its 2025 Spring Yard Waste Collection. The collection will occur in two zones, Orange and Blue, with each zone having one collection date in April and another in May.

Residents in the Orange Zone are instructed to place their yard waste materials out by 6 a.m. on Monday, April 7, and Monday, May 12, 2025. Those residing in the Blue Zone should do so by 6 a.m. on Monday, April 14, and Monday, May 19, 2025.

Crews will begin collecting materials on the scheduled Mondays and continue through the week until all materials are collected. If any materials remain uncollected by Friday after the scheduled collection day, residents are advised to contact the Public Works Department at 217-403-4700.

The program is available to all residential properties within Champaign city limits. Residents must use 30-gallon paper yard waste bags as plastic bags or containers will not be accepted. Bags should be placed within ten feet of the curbside and five feet away from obstacles such as mailboxes or fire hydrants.

Only bags containing leaves, grass clippings, and plant materials will be collected. Other items like rocks or pet waste will not be accepted. Twigs and branches can be bundled with non-metallic twine or placed in paper bags but must adhere to size restrictions: no larger than two inches in diameter and three-and-a-half feet long for branches; bundles cannot exceed eighteen inches in diameter.

Further details about the program can be found at champaignil.gov/yardwaste where residents can also find their zone using the City's Yard Waste Collection Map.

For those outside city limits or with materials that do not meet these requirements, landscape materials may be taken to the Landscape Recycling Center located at 1210 E. University Avenue in Urbana for a fee.
