The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a single-family home on the 1300 block of Winding Lane on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:45 p.m. The fire crews managed to extinguish the flames quickly.
Firefighters arrived following a report from an occupant about the fire in the two-story residence. Upon arrival, they observed moderate smoke coming from one side of the house. All occupants had exited the building by the time firefighters reached the scene. Multiple hose lines were used to control and put out the fire.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue their work at the site. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among firefighters or residents. A cat was rescued during the operation. However, due to damage caused by the fire, occupants will be displaced temporarily.
