A man from Chicago has been detained in connection with a homicide that occurred in December 2024 in southwest Champaign. On the evening of December 9, police were called to the 2400 block of W. Springfield Avenue after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Heaven Hope, 21, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite receiving immediate medical assistance from both the officers and the Champaign Fire Department, Ms. Hope later died at the hospital.

The investigation suggests that Ms. Hope and another man were entering a business when Carl Tribble Jr., 24, allegedly opened fire. The man was unharmed while Ms. Hope was hit several times. Tribble reportedly fled on foot following an argument outside the business. He was apprehended on December 11 in Farmington, Missouri after a vehicle chase originating in southern Illinois. Tribble is currently held there awaiting transport to Champaign County where he faces a charge of First-Degree Murder.

Authorities continue to seek witnesses and video evidence from nearby residents or businesses with surveillance cameras. Although an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Champaign Police are urging anyone with additional information to contact them at 217-351-4545. Information can be shared privately or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 217-373-8477 (TIPS), visiting 373tips.com, or using the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

The public is reminded that all tips submitted to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and are handled by a third-party call center which forwards relevant information to law enforcement without recording calls or tracking caller IDs.

It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
