Fighting Illini women's basketball team has secured the No. 22 spot in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll for the second week in a row. At the time of this ranking, Illinois had an undefeated record of 3-0, which improved to 4-0 shortly after.
Under Coach Green, Illinois has been featured in seven AP polls. The team appeared in four Top-25 polls during the 2022-23 season and continued to be ranked in the preseason and Week 1 and 2 polls of the current season.
Historically, Illinois has been part of 70 AP polls over 11 seasons. Coach Green joins Theresa Grentz as one of only two coaches to lead Illinois to three consecutive seasons with AP Top-25 rankings. This achievement was last seen between the 1996-97 and 2000-01 seasons.
The highest ranking achieved under Green was No. 21 during Week 11 of the 2022-23 season. In their recent games, Illinois has led for most of their playing time, trailing for just a brief period. They have also secured wins against ranked opponents for three straight seasons, matching a streak from past campaigns.
Illinois started receiving votes in both AP and WBCA preseason polls and climbed from No. 23 to No. 22 this week. Currently, seven Big Ten teams are included in the AP Top-25 poll with additional teams receiving votes.
