A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Gibson, Illinois on October 30, 2024. The request was made by Chambana Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the date of the request. The desired fields included the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, Chambana Sun also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above were requested for these active permits as well.
As part of our role in disseminating information to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we at Chambana Sun believe that access to these public records is essential. We are therefore requesting these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), preferably in an electronic format.
Given our role as a media organization in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as part of this FOIA request.
