The Illinois women's golf team concluded the first day of The Chevron Collegiate in Humble, Texas, tied for sixth place. They recorded a 36-hole team total of 565 (-11).
Isabel Sy, a senior from San Gabriel, California, finished the day tied for fourth at 8-under overall, just one stroke behind the leaders. Sy shot a 1-under 71 in her first round and improved to a 7-under 65 in her second round. Her performance included seven birdies without any bogeys during her second round. Sy's scoring on par 4s was particularly strong at an average of 3.65 (-7), and she recorded a total of 11 birdies, tying for third-most among competitors.
Yurang Li, participating in her second collegiate event as a freshman, is also among the top performers with rounds of 68 (-4) and even-par 72. In her career-low opening round, Li achieved two birdies and an eagle on hole No.13 without any bogeys. Over both rounds combined, she made six birdies and completed 25 pars.
Erica Lee ended the day tied for 42nd after shooting even-par in both rounds. Her par-3 scoring average was notable at 2.63 (-3), which matched the lowest among all players.
Lexanne Halama sits tied for 57th after recording scores of -1 (71) and +4 (76). She achieved five birdies in each round.
Anna Ritter is positioned at T60 with back-to-back rounds of +2 (74). Ritter managed to achieve a total of 29 pars over both rounds.
Currently leading all teams is Texas A&M with a score of -23 (553). Individually, Nicha Kanpai and Patrice Mackova from Maryland are tied with Adela Cernousek from Texas A&M at -9 for the lead.
The Fighting Illini will resume play tomorrow morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:00 a.m. CT.
