Illinois baseball concludes homestand facing Western Illinois

Illinois baseball is set to conclude its eight-game homestand with a midweek game against Western Illinois. The match will take place at Illinois Field in Champaign, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.

The Illini are on a winning streak, having swept Northwestern over the weekend and securing seven consecutive victories. They have also maintained an unbeaten record during this homestand, standing at 7-0, and boast a 14-1 record at home this season.

Sam Reed is expected to start as pitcher for Illinois. The team has a strong history against Western Illinois, leading the all-time series 30-9 and winning the last 14 meetings in Champaign.

Western Illinois comes into the game with an 8-27 record after losing two out of three games against SIUE. J.R. Heavilin leads their offense with a .305 batting average, while Tyler Kapraun heads their pitching lineup.

Illinois recently secured an 11-7 victory over Northwestern to complete a series sweep. Connor Milton was notable for his performance over the weekend, achieving nine hits in twelve attempts with multiple runs and RBIs. Cooper Omans also delivered a solid pitching performance on Saturday.

The Illini's current home success includes winning seven straight games in Champaign and maintaining an undefeated streak against Big Ten opponents since last season.

Looking ahead, Illinois will return to Big Ten play with an upcoming series against Maryland starting Friday.
