Illinois 4-H has launched a campaign to connect with its alumni, encouraging them to identify themselves as "4-H Grown." The initiative, titled "Are You Illinois 4-H Grown?" runs from June 1 to August 31 and aims to register former members who have not yet joined the Illinois 4-H Alumni Association.
Tina Veal, University of Illinois Extension 4-H constituent and engagement manager, stated, “We want to continue to build lifelong connections and identify 4-H alumni near and far. We do not have a list of past 4-H members of the Illinois 4-H program, so 4-H alumni will need to self-identify, regardless if they were a member for one year or more than ten years."
The campaign's goal is to find 5,000 new alumni. Veal added, "We hope they will help us continue to create a lifelong connection to support the next generation of leaders.”
Alumni are encouraged to register for free membership in the association. Registered individuals can vote for their county's support fund allocation—$300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. Additionally, registrants stand a chance to win one of four prizes worth $50 in credit towards Illinois 4-H alumni apparel.
Association members will receive updates on current programs and opportunities through a quarterly newsletter. “We have thousands of 4-H alumni that have participated in the program," said Veal. "We want to connect with them, share about the current goals of the Illinois 4-H program and hear how 4-H impacted their lives.”
Established in 2016, the Illinois 4-H Alumni Association seeks to foster a lifelong community among its members across Illinois and beyond. The mission includes increasing awareness and participation while promoting volunteerism and philanthropic commitment.
