Chambana Sun

There were 58 offenders living in Champaign County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Chambana Sun.

The data shows 55 men and three women were released in Champaign County. Of the parolees, two were veterans, and the median age was 36. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2020, and the oldest was a 66-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2021.

The offender incarcerated the longest was Anthony J. Carev. He was convicted of homicide in 1997 when he was 24 years old. He is now 49.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
