In a Dec. 15 Facebook post, Rep. Brad Halbrook urged his supporters to donate to a legal defense fund.
“Your 2A rights are under attack,” Halbrook said. “Fight back against HB-5855! Donate to the legal defense fund: https://fflil.org/donate/.”
In his Facebook post, Halbrook shared a link to the Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois. It is an organization supporting firearms dealers in the state. According to its website, "Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois (FFL-IL) is an 501(c)(4) organization for federal firearms licensees in Illinois. FFL-IL was founded this year in response to relentless attacks against Federal Firearm Licensees by anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment groups. Our focus is primarily dealer issues in Illinois."
FF-IL posted that all donations from December and beyond will be "allocated to the battle against HB-5855. We’re all in this fight together, and we appreciate your support."
HB 5855 also known as "the "Protect Illinois Communities Act." would ban assault weapons, raise the minimum age to buy a gun, changes rules for hunters under the age of 21, and more.
Hearings for the bill began on Dec. 12. If the bill passes, Illinois will join seven other states that have banned assault weapons.
