At its Nov. 15 meeting, the Danville City Council voted unanimously to approve a zoning ordinance allowing a tattoo parlor in the city.

The business, owned by father and son John and Jett Jansky, is located at 7 East North St. They are asking for the business to be able to open after the previous shop they worked for closed. They wanted to remain in the community so they decided to open a shop of their own.

Some of the aldermen said that they were glad to have their business become a part of the ever-growing downtown. The artists agreed, saying they were happy to increase the level of expression in the area, and the father’s paintings of the community will also be featured in the shop.

“That’s actually really important to us as well," Jett Jansky said. "We know that the downtown area is really rich in artistic culture, with paintings on the walls and music events and that kind of thing and we ... would like to be a part of that and we would like to showcase our art there. So it’s really important to us as well.”

Council was told the business will be more of a privately scheduled operation as both of the artists have established clientele in the area that will keep them busy. The shop will remain relatively quiet as customers will come by almost entirely on a scheduled basis. They do this also to make sure that the parking availability in the area is not overrun and remains open for other businesses as well.

Aldermen Ethan Burt and Carolyn Wands were absent from the meeting.

The council will meet for the last time in 2022 at 6 p.m. on Dec. 20 in the lower level in the city council chambers at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building on 17 West Main St.
