PIPER CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT: It’s Illegal To Not Slow Down Or Move Over For Emergency Vehicles

Policelightcar

Piper City Fire Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 12.

A little driving lesson for everyone. Did you know it’s illegal to not slow down or move over for emergency vehicles on the side of the road? Last night while working a traffic accident on route 24, there were SEVERAL vehicles that did not slow down for us while we were attending to the victims. There is a law called Scott’s law in memory of a firefighter who was killed working a car accident in Illinois in 2000. This law states that you MUST slow down and change lanes to give fire/police/ems/ & tow truck operators room to work. You can and will be ticketed/fined for not slowing down or moving over. Please, for our safety do this for us.
