Champaign City Council issued the following announcement on June 16.
Last night, at approximately 7:54 PM, Champaign Police were on patrol near the intersection of N. Third and E. Washington St., when an officer was flagged down by an individual with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, an 18-year-old male from Champaign, was provided on-scene medical care and transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for multiple non-life threatening injuries. Preliminary information suggests that the victim was in the 300 block of E. Hill St. when he was struck by gunfire.
At 9:31 PM, Champaign Police responded to Beardsley Park (1006 N. Walnut St.) after receiving reports that an individual at the park had been shot. The victim, a 40-year-old male from Champaign, left the area on foot before police arrival and was later found in the 1000 block of N. Neil St. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is receiving treatment for what appears to be a non-life threatening injury.
Police are processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to help identify the circumstances that led to these incidents. Currently there is no information to suggest that the two shootings are related. No suspect information in either shooting is available at this time.
The investigation into these incidents is on-going and police ask that anyone who was in the nearby area at the time of either shooting to call the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545. Detectives will arrange to speak privately with anyone who has information.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the persons responsible for these crimes.
