State Senate hopeful Madigan supports Independent Map Amendment.

Vote 08

Champaign’s Republican candidate for Senate District 52 happens to be named Mike Madigan, but he is a restaurateur — not the better-known house speaker — who recently announced his support of the Independent Map Amendment.

It’s not easy being a political namesake, so “the other” Mike Madigan capitalized on his name, adapting to the coincidence by naming his website theothermikemadigan.com as he geared up for the 2016 campaign.

“Vote YES on the Independent Map amendment this November,” Madigan urged constituents. “That's if it stays on the ballot. The political power brokers are hard at work trying to knock it off right now. And also remember to vote for candidates on the ballot who support this crucial reform.”

Madigan, who hails from Urbana, owns Hickory River Smokehouse eateries in Urbana and three additional locales. He recently explained that he is running not as a career politician, but as a private citizen and business owner desiring to represent his jurisdiction in the interest of public service.

“The citizens of Illinois have signaled very clearly with their signatures that they want legislative redistricting reform on the November ballot,” Independent Maps chair Dennis FitzSimons said. He went on to underscore the importance of keeping the initiative in motion and defying the lawsuit filed by “entrenched political interests.”
