The village of Rantoul Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget for 2016-17 on April 5.
A presentation shows the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year has accounted for increases in utility rates and updates to the motor fuel tax and sales taxes associated with home rule for the village. It also notes that on average, this budget will allow a 3 percent increase in salaries for village employees.
The level of staffing is expected to remain constant with the addition of a communication position. There are several items listed as major projects that are specified within this budget. This includes the building of a bike path in the downtown area, electrical infrastructure upgrades, sewer repairs, payments for fire trucks and repairs to the airport.
The presentation also states that with this proposal, the village’s general fund would be balanced if left in its current state. At the following full board meeting on April 12, the budget is expected to be voted for approval.
This hearing is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. at the Village Hall.
