The Colfax Village Board met last month to discuss the next steps in addressing sewer problems in the Riverview Subdivision.

Several residents have reported sewage backing up into through their floor drains during storm events.

Public Works Superintendent Brian Hereford said the village found a point of water infiltration behind the village offices and that a camera crew will come during the next major rain event to confirm the location and source of the leak.

Hereford added that even once the leak is addressed, the homes in the subdivision will still need some type of adjustment to their plumbing, which was not installed correctly. Plumbing going into homes in the Riverview Subdivision is not plumbed at 45 degrees as it is in the rest of the village, and the floor drains are hooked up to the sewer when they shouldn't be.

Village officials pledged to continue working to address the infiltration issue and think of some ways to address the plumbing problems.

The village also discussed its options relating to a former hardware store building in disrepair. Officials said the building is a public safety hazard  and needs to be torn down by either the owner or by the village after the village purchases the property from the owner.
