Second teen dies following June shooting incident; police seek public's help

The Champaign Police Department has reported that a second victim involved in the June 29 shooting incident has died from his injuries. The announcement, made on behalf of the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, states that the victim passed away at 8:37 a.m. on July 7, 2025. An investigation into the case is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to the public for help in identifying those responsible. The name of the juvenile victim is being withheld at the family's request.

Police were called to Holly Hill Drive at 12:01 a.m. on June 29 after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Officers found two teenagers from Champaign unconscious with severe gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home in the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive. They provided medical assistance alongside the Champaign Fire Department before transporting both victims to a hospital. One victim, a sixteen-year-old male, died from his injuries on June 29. The second victim remained in critical condition until he passed away on July 7.

The police department continues to seek information related to this incident and encourages anyone with knowledge to contact them at 217-351-4545. Residents or businesses near the area who have exterior video footage that could aid in the investigation are asked to contact law enforcement. As of now, no arrests have been made, and updates will be shared as they become available.

Crime Stoppers assures anonymity for all information provided and offers cash rewards for tips leading to arrests: $5,000 for homicide cases, $2,500 for felony firearm-related crimes, and up to $1,000 for other crimes.
