The Planning & Development Department attended the Douglass Park Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The purpose was to gather input on the strategies and goals of the Downtown Plan. Over the past year, the Downtown Plan update team has collected extensive feedback and ideas on Downtown Champaign's strengths, opportunities, and needs.
At the event, participants engaged with City staff about the project and helped prioritize implementation strategies using a dot sticker voting exercise. Participants in the Juneteenth Celebration came from a broader community base, offering various perspectives to ensure that Downtown Plan recommendations create a destination for all users.
Additional summer engagement activities are planned to support the Downtown Plan. One such event is the upcoming Toast to Taylor celebration scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025. Attendees are encouraged to visit the City's tent to share their thoughts on the plan and pick up a sticker showcasing their pride in Downtown.
