Champaign Police responded to a shooting incident in the 200 block of Burr Oak Court at 10:19 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. Officers found a 13-year-old with life-threatening gunshot wounds and provided immediate medical aid. The teenager was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition. A second victim, aged 15, was also found with a gunshot wound to the hand and received medical treatment.
The investigation suggests that several unknown individuals were involved in an altercation that led to gunfire, injuring the victims. The group fled before police arrived. The incident also resulted in damage to one building and one vehicle.
Police are actively seeking witnesses and video footage from nearby areas. Residents or businesses with surveillance cameras are urged to contact the police department. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues. Champaign Police expressed gratitude for the assistance from Urbana and University of Illinois Police Departments, Champaign County Sheriff's Office, and Illinois State Police.
