From May 20 to 22, 2025, Community Relations Manager Janel Gomez from the Equity and Engagement Department participated in the 2025 Welcoming Interactive conference held in Detroit. The biennial event gathered over 1,000 community leaders, policymakers, and advocates to discuss best practices and innovative strategies for immigrant inclusion and community building.
The conference featured workshops, panel discussions, and keynote addresses that concentrated on topics such as economic development, civic engagement, and government leadership. Participants had the chance to explore local innovations and gain insights into creating inclusive communities.
An interactive art project was also part of the conference activities. Led by a Detroit-area artist, this project aimed to reflect the themes of welcoming, inclusion, and belonging.
